Got a request for more information?
If the Department contacts you asking for further documents or information, don't panic — it's not a refusal. It's a chance to fill a specific gap.
Two things that matter most
- Respond by the deadline. These requests come with a firm date. Miss it and a decision can be made on what they already have.
- Respond completely. A partial answer can be as risky as a late one. Read exactly what's asked and provide exactly that.
How to handle it well
- Re-read the request carefully — answer the precise question, not a version of it.
- If it asks for a specific document, provide that document, clearly labelled.
- If you genuinely need more time, find out early whether an extension is possible rather than going silent.
Takeaway: A request is an opportunity, not a rejection — answer it fully and on time.
